Marian Elizabeth Schmidt, age 90, of Saranac Lake, died Thursday, June 13, 2019 at Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake.

Born in Brooklyn, NY on November 22, 1928, she was the daughter of Edwin and Winnie (Hurlbut) Torkelson. Marian married Ernest Schmidt on November 21, 1948 in Baldwin. NY.

Marian co-owned and operated the Sara Placid Liquor store in Saranac Lake and also was a co-owner of the Resort Feed and Seed Store in Saranac Lake. She was a member and past president of the Saranac Lake Women’s Civic Chamber. She also volunteered for the Saranac Lake Paint and Pallet Art Association and was a Girl Scout Leader in New Jersey for many years.

She is survived by her husband Ernest of Saranac Lake, three sons Donald (Barbara) Schmidt of Saranac Lake, Rick (Debbie) Schmidt of Myrtle Beach, SC and Steven (Mickey) Schmidt of Saranac Lake, one sister Virginia Carter of Florida, 9 Grand Children and 14 Great grandchildren. She was predeceased by one daughter Christine Ann Mecklenburg, two brothers David and Edwin Torkelson and one sister Edith Enright.

Funeral arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. Funeral services will take place at a later date at the convenience of the family.

Friends wishing to remember Marian Elizabeth Schmidt may make memorial contributions to the Saranac Lake Women’s Civic Chamber or the Paint and Pallet Art Association in care of the funeral home.
