John  Verheydt
John Verheydt, age 94, of 82 Woodruff Street, Saranac Lake, died Friday, May 28, 2010 at Adirondack Medical Center.

Born in The Hague, Netherlands, on July 28, 1915, he was the son of Jean and Elizabeth (Barbier) Verheydt. He married Nancy Lee Cahn in Youngstown, Ohio. She predeceased him in 1964. He later married Solange Gendron in Saranac Lake on January 29, 1965 by Rev. Daniel Partidge.

Mr. Verheydt was raised in the Netherlands and had served in the Netherlands Military Service before moving to the United States. He had been a resident of Saranac Lake for over 50 years coming from Youngstown, Ohio. Mr. Verheydt had worked as a supervisor for Shell Oil Refinery in Curacao. After moving to Saranac Lake he owned and operated the Warehouse Coin Wash and Carwash and was a sales representative for Electrolux in the Tri-Lakes area for many years.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years Solange Verheydt of Saranac Lake, NY, one granddaughter Heather Rich of Manchester, NH, one grandson Jeremy Rich and his wife Leslie of Myrtle Beach, SC, one great grandson Ethan Rich of Myrtle Beach, SC, and one son-in-law Bill Rich of Saranac Lake, NY. He was preceded in death by his father, mother, one daughter Heidi Rich, and one sister Nel Nievwland.

Funeral arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home. There will be no calling hours. A graveside service will take place in St. Bernard's Cemetery at a later date to be announced.
