Eleanor Duquette Vitullo, of Burlington, NJ, passed away on November 13, 2011 at age 86. Beloved wife of 62 years to the late Camillo. Loving mother of Kathy Vitullo Ford (Joseph) of Cherry Hill, NJ; Nick Vitullo (Patty) of Cherry Hill, NJ; Mary Vitullo Komerosky (Cork) of Englewood, FL; and Michael Vitullo of Burlington, NJ. Devoted grandmother of Amanda Cohen (Ben); Kelly, Lindsey and A.J. Loving great grandmother of Brandon and Gabriella. Dear sister of Shirley McGill (Howard) of Lake Clear, NY and the late William Duquette (Rosemary), John Duquette and Rita Hadjo (Alex). Sister in law of Claire Duquette of Saranac Lake, NY. Loving Godmother of Gail Rice of Saranac Lake, NY and affectionate aunt of many nieces and nephews. She will be sadly missed by all.
Eleanor was born and raised in Saranac Lake, NY. She attended Plattsburg State Teachers College and received her R. N. degree during World War II. She loved nursing and enjoyed a varied career including assignments in Canton, Potsdam, and especially in the O.R. at Saranac Lake General Hospital. After moving to New Jersey and raising her children she worked as a substitute school nurse and for the Visiting Nurse Association. She was a 40 year member of the Harvard Medical School Nurses’ Health Study.
Later in life while living in the South Pacific on Kwajalein Island, she worked extensively with the Jesuits and the Maryknolls making a difference in the lives of the Marshallese people by teaching cooking and nutrition as well as child care.
Arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. The family will receive friends on Saturday, November 19, 2011 from 10:45 AM to 11:45AM at St. Bernard’s Church. A Mass of Christian Burial will immediately follow at 12:00 PM at the church. Interment will take place at St. Bernard's Cemetery, Saranac Lake, NY.
