Obituary for Robert Mead "Bob" Sofield

Robert M. “Bob” Sofield, age 89, of Saranac Lake, NY, died Tuesday October 29, 2019 at the Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake.

Born in Perth Amboy, NJ on April 10, 1930, he was the son of Wilson and Marjory (Tuffs) Sofield. He met the love of his life, Ruth Moody and they were married on October 28, 1955 in Elizabeth, NJ. Bob and Ruth just celebrated 64 years of marriage.

Bobs most important love was that of his family. He was an avid volunteer his entire life, volunteering as a coach for baseball, the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid, Ironman Lake Placid, Ironman 70.3, Holiday Helpers, Adirondack Scenic Railroad and where ever else Ruth decided he needed to volunteer. Bob was an avid Lionel train collector having collected hundreds of Lionel trains throughout the years. Bob and Ruth celebrated their 50th Wedding anniversary in Hawaii and Bob would love to cruise taking yearly cruises with his daughters Linda and Debbie.

Bob is survived by his loving wife Ruth Sofield, his two daughters Linda (Garry) Golden of Queensbury, NY and Debbie (Dale) Vaughn of Hudson Falls, NY. Two sons: Rick (Alice) Sofield of Saranac Lake and John Sofield of Plattsburgh, NY. Bob is also survived by four grandchildren: Joseph (Nicole) Pickering of Queensbury, James Ingleright of Saranac Lake, Joshua Vaughn of Ohio and David Sofield (Brooke LaVair) of Saranac Lake; and 2 great grandchildren: Greysen and Helen.

Bob was preceded in death by his father and mother and one sister Doris Taggert.

Funeral arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home, 20 Church Street in Saranac Lake. Calling hours will be held on Friday November 1, 2019 from 1 to 3pm at the Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Pine Ridge Cemetery in Saranac Lake.
