Obituary

Judith Duncan, age 80, of Upper St. Regis Lake, died peacefully on Wednesday April 24, 2019 at her daughter's home in Lake Clear.

Born in New York City, New York, on October 21, 1938, she was the oldest daughter of Henry A. and Mary F. (Peterson) Fenn. Judith met Ransom H. Duncan as children together summering on Upper St, Regis Lake; they were married on Saturday July 6, 1957 at St. John's in the Wilderness in Paul Smiths, NY, and enjoyed nearly 53 years of rich and joyous married life. Ranny predeceased her on June 13, 2010.

Judy’s life was centered on her love of family! While she and Ranny were raising their seven children, she was an active volunteer in church activities and PTO, served as a girl scout leader, started Junior races for the St. Regis Yacht Club, and was a NY State boating instructor. She shared her love of sailing, swimming, and singing with her children, nieces and nephews, and their friends, and was always happiest when her house was full of youngsters.

She is survived by daughters Barbara Duncan of Upper St Regis Lake, Beth Duncan of East Greenbush, NY, Melissa Fernau and her husband Mark of Clinton, MA, Laura A. Duncan and her wife Michele Raville of Lake Clear, NY, and Judith L. Duncan and her partner Kathleen Canzano of Simsbury, CT; sons Ransom E. Duncan and his wife Andrea (Bonfield) of Dexter, MI, and Graham Duncan and his wife Laura (LaTorre) of Portland, ME; sisters Babs Van Hoosier of Story, WY, Margo Fenn of Harwich, MA, and Leslie Gershon of New York, NY; brother Henry Fenn, Jr. of Lenox, MA; 11 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren and many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The family is grateful to High Peaks Hospice for helping us to care for Judy at home during her last months.

Funeral arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will take place at 1:00 PM Saturday May 4, 2019 at St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Saranac Lake. Interment will take place at St. John's in the Wilderness Cemetery in Paul Smiths at a later date.

Friends wishing to remember Judith Duncan may make memorial contributions to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society in care of the funeral home. Family and friends can also share their memories and sign the online guestbook at fortunekeoughfuneralhome.com.

Robert andLorna Kay, of Mississauga, Ontario send our heartfelt sympathy to all the Duncan family on the loss of Mom, Judy. Our family and the Duncans became friends when we all lived in Allendale, N.J. In the 1970’s, and have a host of happy memories of enjoying weddings of each others’ offspring, special anniversaries on both sides of the border, and lots of visits to each others’ country homes. We have been so happy to have received many of their family members as welcome guests in our home, and will miss Judy so much, just as we have missed Ranny’s bad jokes and generous nature. Unfortunately we are unable to be present for Judy’s service, but will surely be there in spirit.
