Obituary for Thelma I. Wood (Ward)

Thelma I. Wood, age 95, of Saranac Lake, died Saturday, June 23, 2018 at Elderwood of Uihlein at Lake Placid where she had been a resident since July of 2017.

Born in Saranac Lake, New York on October 17, 1922, she was the daughter of Walter and Mae (Hathaway) Ward.

Thelma graduated from Saranac Lake High School in 1941. She married Willis Wood on September 8, 1948.
Thelma worked in retail for many years including Emily Durell’s Gift Shop, Lisa’s Gift Shop, Town & Country Store and Parnell’s Shoe Salon until her retirement in 1985.

She was a member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church and the Ladies Guild. Thelma is a past president of the Saranac Lake Women’s Civic Chamber and had volunteered at the Community Lunch Box at St. Lue’s Church.
She was predeceased by her husband in 1995 and a brother Charles Ward of Albany. She is survived by her daughter Deborah Croft and her husband James of Cape Elizabeth, Maine three grandchildren David and his wife Sonia, Sarah and her boyfriend Adam and Emily all of Cape Elizabeth, Maine, two great grandchildren Dylan and Mason and one sister Eunice Cornicelli and her husband Frank of Schenectady and many nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will take place at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home on Wednesday June 27, 2018 from 11:00 am to 12:30 am. A funeral service will immediately follow at 1:00 P.M. on Wednesday at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, with Rev. Fredrick Dennis officiating. Burial will take place at Union Cemetery in Vermontville.
