Obituary for Fred Allen Wagner

Fred Allen Wagner, age 57, of Saranac Lake, died in his home Saturday, May 26, 2018, following a long illness, with his adoring wife by his side.

Fred was born to his loving parents John Allen and Carolyn (Bashaw) Wagner on March 30, 1961 in Spartanburg, SC. He grew up in Malone, NY where he graduated from Franklin Academy. In 1979, he joined the United States Navy serving on a nuclear sub until June 28, 1985, when he was honorably discharged and returned to Malone. Fred finally found a place to call home in Saranac Lake where he started his electrical business Troubleshooters, specializing in air conditioning and boiler repair. He was an avid coin collector: a hobby he shared with his father. Fred loved sports, but more specifically he loved the New York Yankees, New England Patriots and the Syracuse Orangemen. He spent many weekends watching his favorite teams on tv or attending games with his family and friends. One of his greatest joys in life was spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Fred is survived by his soulmate of 23 years (wife of 2 years) Marion Faye Wagner, his son Andrew (Andrea) Wagner of Saranac, NY, and two step-daughters Keana Riley and Kaylen Riley of Saranac Lake, NY; his parents John Allen and Carolyn Wagner of Chesnee, SC; grandchildren Kage Diehl, Kinsley Snyder and Aayla Wagner. Survivors also include his brothers and sisters: Vicky (Carl) Bashaw of Owls Head, NY; John (Penny) Wagner of Malone, NY; Scott (Jessica) Wagner of Inman, SC; and Wendy (Will) Cauthen of Cramerton, NC; as well as Goddaughter Leighann Bashaw; twelve nieces and nephews and nine great nieces and nephews. He is also survived by 3 brother-in-law’s Edgar (Melissa) Johnstone of Frankfort, KY; William (Ashley) Johnstone of Frankfort, KY; and Christopher Johnstone of Frankfort, KY and many wonderful lifelong friends.

He was predeceased by his maternal grandparents Fred and Bertha Bashaw; paternal grandparents Ruben and Hettie Wagner; his sister Robin Wagner, his brother Wade Wagner and his in-laws Rose (Townsell) and Ben Johnstone.

Calling hours will take place at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home on Friday, June 1, 2018, from 5 - 7 PM. A prayer service will take place Friday evening at 6:50 PM at the funeral home. A graveside service will take place at 10:30 AM on Saturday June 2, 2018, at St. John Bosco Cemetery in Malone.
