Mildred Agnes Jackson, age 98, of Saranac Lake, died Friday, March 02, 2018 at Elderwood of Uhlein at Lake Placid.

Born in Bronx, New York on November 06, 1919, she was the oldest of 9 children of George and Dorothy (Helberg) Moore. Mildred married Joseph J. Jackson on March 31, 1939 in the Bronx. Joseph predeceased her on December 24, 1983.

Mildred attended public school in Bronx and dropped out six months before graduation to work for the WPA on her family’s behalf when her father became ill. She later became a waitress until her marriage to Joe when she than became a homemaker. Mildred was active in the Girl Scouts as a leader, she was a member of the Alter and Rosary Society of St. Philip’s and St. James Church in Bronx, NY and was active in the Democratic Party and Board of Elections. Mildred and Joe raised 5 children (and an occasional niece or nephew) while they lived in Bronx. They moved to Glendale, AZ in 1978. While living in Glendale, Mildred was active in St. Rafael’s Church serving in many positions with the Ladies Guild. In 2009, she moved to Saranac Lake to live with her daughter Eileen.

Mildred was proud that her husband, all her sons, and all her brothers served in the military. She was also very proud that at 98 years old she was still able to do her check book and crossword puzzles. She also enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and sewing.

Mildred is survived by her sons Stephen (Debra) Jackson of Bronx, NY, Kevin (Martha) Jackson of Hopkinton, MA, her daughters Kathleen (Vincent) Reino of Hauppauge, NY, and Eileen (John) Marino of Saranac Lake, NY, her brothers Eugene Moore of Colorado Springs, CO, and William Moore of Sand Point, ID. Mildred is also survived by her 11 grandchildren Christopher (Jeanne) Reino, William (Dana) Reino , Casandra (Joseph) Colletti, Joseph (Rita) Jackson, III, Lorraine (Stephen) Falkowitz, Meagan Jackson, Seth (Candace) Jackson, Ethan Jackson, Calib Jackson, Jonathan (Sandra) Marino, and James Marino. She is also survived by her 8 Great Grandchildren John, Alexis, and Vincent Reino, Nichole and Sophie Jackson, Stephen, Salvatore, and Joseph Colletti, and “Scruffy” her furry companion. She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph, her father and mother George and Dorothy (Helberg) Moore, her son Joseph Jackson Jr., her brothers George, Edward, Richard, Thomas, and Robert Moore, her sister Dorothy Steiner, and her three nieces Laura, Gail and Alice.

Funeral arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 AM on Saturday March 10, 2018 at St. Bernard's Church, in Saranac Lake with Fr. Patrick Ratigan officiating. Burial will take place in the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona in Phoenix.
