Obituary for Martha Jean Martin (Block)
Martha Jean Martin, age 89, of Rensselaer, NY and formerly of Saranac Lake died Thursday, February 08, 2018 at Albany Medical Center.
Martha was born in Paul Smiths, NY on February 19, 1928, she was the daughter of Emil and Sadie (Blanchard) Block. Martha married Gilbert Martin on October 18, 1946 in St. Bernard's Church, by Fr. O’Connor.
Martha was a foster Grandmother at Stepping Stone II in East Greenbush, NY for 2 years and baby-sat children in her home. Her hobbies included playing cards, walking, riding around looking at the scenery, picnicking and camping.
Martha is survived by three sons: Ronald Martin of Rensselaer, Neil Martin Sr. of Saranac Lake and Gene Martin of Albany, her brother Willy Block of Rensselaer, six grandchildren: Neil Martin, Jr. of Savannah, Ga., Brook Martin of Albany, Jonathan Martin of Colorado, Chris Martin or Paul Smith’s, Dylan and Mariah Martin of Glenmont, NY and five great grandchildren: Vanessa Martin of Albany, Summer Leann Martin of Savannah, Ga., Thomas and Madison Coleman of East Greenbush, NY.
Martha was preceded in death by her mother and father, her husband Gilbert, two sisters Anna La Bombard, and Margaret Martin, and two brothers Emil and Joseph Block.
Calling hours will take place at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake on Thursday, February 15, 2018 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place February 16, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Bernard's Church, with Rev. Patrick Ratigan officiating. Cremation will follow with Burial in St. John’s Cemetery in Lake Clear.
