Louis F.  D'Onofrio
Louis F. D'Onofrio, age 96, formerly of Saranac Lake, and South Colonie, NY died Saturday July 22, 2017 at the Whittier Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center in Ghent, NY where he had been a resident for the past 2 years.

Born in Saranac Lake, New York on October 05, 1920, he was the son of Joseph and Rosa (Martone) D'Onofrio. Louis, married Hazel M. LaRose on March 23, 1941 in Saranac Lake, NY. She predeceased him on December 7, 2006.

Lou had been a resident of Saranac Lake for 36 years. He attended and graduated from Saranac Lake High School and was well known as an exceptional hockey player for the High School Hockey team. Lou was a veteran of the United States Navy serving during World War II. He was also a past member and Past Assistant Chief of the Saranac Lake Volunteer Fire Department. Lou and Hazel eventually moved to the Albany, NY area where he lived for over 50 years and was employed as a printer for Capital News Papers until his retirement. Lou was a local bowling champ, enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting, going to Saratoga Race Track and a lifelong New York Yankee’s fan.

He is survived by one daughter Carole (Joseph) Kobrzycki of Rocky Hill, CT, two Grandchildren, Louis (Tammy) Graver of Feura Bush, NY, and Derek Greenwald (Edie) of Rocky Hill, CT. He was preceded in death by two daughters Nancy Attanasio of Schenectady and Kimberly D'Onofrio of Albany, five brothers Anthony, Frank, Leo, Thomas and Salvador D'Onofrio, and two sisters Mary Duprey, and Antoinette McRobbie.

Funeral arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 12:00 PM on Tuesday August 1, 2017 at St. Bernard's Church, with Rev. Patrick Ratigan officiating. Burial will follow at St. Bernard Cemetery in Saranac Lake.
