Shirley (Parker) Claremont, age79 passed away unexpectedly Sunday, May 14, in her Gabriels home.

Shirley was born in Saranac Lake, NY March 5, 1938, the daughter of the late Harold and Helen Parker. She graduated from the Saranac Lake High School. Not long after high school, she was employed with the New York Telephone Company in Saranac Lake. She married Albert “Bud” Claremont and they made their home in Gabriels, NY for decades. Shirley worked most of her adult life in the food service department at Paul Smith’s College in Paul Smiths, NY. There she developed many lifelong friendships.

Shirley is survived by her loving siblings, Peggy LeVrier of Houston, TX and Harold “John” Parker, his wife Shelley of Plattsburgh, NY. She is also survived by and was adored by her children, Shelley (Claremont) Smith, her husband Roger, and their children Brittany Fobare, her husband Justin and Brooke Smith, Todd Claremont, his wife Charlene, and their children, Ashley and Kellie, and Jim Claremont and his children James and Caroline. Shirley was also the proud great grandmother of Virginia Fobare, the daughter of Brittany and Justin Fobare.

Shirley was pre-deceased by her parents as well as by her son Paul in 1975, her husband Bud in 2007and one brother-in-law Wayne LeVrier.

Shirley was, without question, the rock and back bone of the Claremont family. She will be severely missed as she has such a wonderful relationship with so many, and each relationship was in its unique way.

Calling hours will take place from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM on Friday May 19, 2017 at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake, A reception will immediately follow calling hours at the Paul Smiths Gabriels Volunteer Fire Department Station. A mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 AM on Saturday May 20th at Church of the Assumption in Gabriels with Rev. Paul Kelly officiating. Burial will follow at the Mountain View Cemetery in Gabriels, NY.

Family and friends wishing to remember Shirley may make memorial contributions to the Paul Smiths Gabriel’s Volunteer Fire Department or the Tri-Lakes Humane Society in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home.
