Sharon Gunther, age 67, of Saranac Lake, died Wednesday, March 08, 2017 at the Adirondack Medical Center following a brief illness.

Born in Saranac Lake, New York on November 04, 1949, she was the daughter of Earl and Gladys (Wilson) Catillaz. Sharon married Gary Gunther on June 16, 1973 at St. Bernard’s Church in Saranac Lake. He predeceased her on September 19, 2011.

Sharon attended and graduated from St. Pius X School in Saranac Lake. Following high school she attended Albany Business College with a secretarial degree. In her return home, Sharon assisted in the operation of the family business, Earl's Village Tavern. Sharon then worked for the New York State Department of Correction at Adirondack Correctional Facility for 28 years until her retirement in November of 2004. Sharon especially loved being a mother and raising her 3 children. She supported and guided them all through the paths of life with a passion that was only unique to her. Sharon's love, support and generosity with her children and grandchildren was a defining quality that shines on in her passing.

She is survived by one son Jason Gunther and his companion Shanna Stahl of Stuart, FL, two daughters Jodi Gunther-Delosh of Saranac Lake and Jaime Gunther of Bloomingdale and three grandchildren Dylan Gunther, Chayse Emerson Delosh both of Saranac Lake and Aubree Stahl of Stuart, FL and many cousins. She was preceded in death by her father and mother and son-in-law.

Calling hours will take place at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home on Sunday, March 12, 2017 from 3 PM to 5 PM. A funeral service will immediately follow at 5 PM at the funeral home with Monsieur McAvoy officiating. Burial will take place at St. Bernard Cemetery in Saranac Lake in the spring.
