Condolence From: Paul Endersbee
Condolence: I first met John in 1962. I was a new, young State Trooper working out of Ray Brook. I first talked to him once on the highway and once at his home. Short talks but I saw John many times out and about in his open cars. There is no doubt in my mind John was an exceptional individual and totally comfortable in his own skin. He was fortunate living his life exactly as he wished. RIP John

Condolence: I have many fond memories of Hawkeye and his friendship was treasured. It was always a treat to spend time with John, both at his "museum" in Gabriels and here in Shelburne. His sage advice and supply of parts were essential ingredients in my endless endeavor to restore my old Buicks. John made promises to show up for a big turkey dinner, but when "push came to shove",he was never able to make it. He certainly will be missed by all who knew him.

Condolence From: Lora Brown, Sarasota FL
Condolence: Rest in loving peace ol'friend. Your inspiration , knowledge, encouragement
and occasional pool game at the Shamrock with us Paul Smith College students will remain part of your legacy as one the smartest Adirondack men to live. You took the time to teach a girl how to survey when the finest of teachers failed and for this I will always be forever thankful. Coming down Harrietstown Hill will never feel the same again but I will still toot the horn.

Condolence: I enjoyed many hours searching for sunken steamboats and old motorboats near the Saranac Inn
on upper Saranac Lake as a kid with John. We also talked about his collection of old Packards through the years. He was a character that I will miss. May he rest in peace.
