Obituary for Dorothy "Dottie" Oliver

Dorothy (Dottie) P. Oliver, age 84, of 80 County Route 60, Gabriels, died Saturday, February 15, 2014 at Adirondack Medical Center.

Born in Lake Placid, New York on August 05, 1929, she was the daughter of John and Norma Ruth (Winch) Darrah. She married Robert Oliver on November 22, 1972 in Gabriels, NY.

Dorothy had worked at various area businesses including Tucker Tatters in Gabriels, the Gabriels Sanatorium, and the Hotel Saranac until her retirement. She enjoyed knitting, reading and baking. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family.

She is survived by her husband Robert Oliver of Gabriels, NY, four daughters; Debbie Moody of Keene, Norma Rock of Gabriels, Elaine Urbanowicz of Watervliet, and Jane Shanty and her husband Bruce of Saranac Lake, five sons Herb Rock and his wife Margaret of Wilmington, Pete Rock of Saranac Lake, Alan Rock of Gabriels, Tim Rock and his wife Mary Ellen of Gabriels and Murray Oliver and his wife Heather of Paul Smiths, one step-son Ronald Oliver of Canada, two sisters Charlotte Dumas of Ogdensburg and Jean Eagle of Warrensburg, one brother John (Bucky) Darrah of Barefoot Bay, FL and several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, mother, three sisters; Thelma Gates, Nancy Darrah, and Joan Walker, one son-in-law Paul Moody and one step-daughter Lisa Oliver.

Calling hours will take place at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home on Saturday, February 22, 2014 from 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM. A memorial service will immediately follow at 3:00 P.M. at the funeral home with Rev. Joanne White officiating. Burial will take place in Mountain View Cemetery in Gabriels in May.
